Lia Karagianopoulos is a Baltimore-born artist who in the winter of 2017, graduated Cum Laude from Towson University in with a BFA in Dance Performance and Choreography and a specialization in Pre-Physical Therapy studies. She had created many works there, including TETHERED, which was selected for adjudication at the American College Dance Association in 2017. Lia began to seriously study dance when she entered high school. In 2012, she graduated as a dance magnet student with top honors from Patapsco High School and Center for the Arts and was awarded Maryland All-State Dancer. While in high school, Lia was a member of Baltimore County All-Honors Dance Ensemble from 2009-2012 under the direction of Stephanie Powell and was one of four selected to be a dance ambassador while on tour in England, during the Summer of 2012.
Lia became part of the Zion Dance Project family during the 2018 Summer Series: ARIZE and is now in her second season with the company! She has previously performed professionally with Baltimore based company, Deep Vision Dance Company, under the direction of Nicole A. Martinell as well as Interlaced Productions for the 2018 State Fair of Texas show, ILLUMINATION SENSATION. In addition, Lia has had the privilege of training under scholarship with contemporary companies such as Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, Houston METdance, and Ririe-Woodbury, and worked with world-renowned artists such as Darrell Grand Moultrie, Linda-Denise Fisher-Harrell, Runqiao Du, Kim Bears-Bailey, and Vincent Thomas, amongst many.
This is Lia’s second year teaching at The Dallas Conservatory. She teaches all ages and a variety of styles ranging from Ballet, Contemporary, Modern, Jazz, Broadway, Creative Movement, and Improvisation & Partnering. Lia had previously taught in Maryland for Baltimore County Public School’s Recreational Program: Mission Dance Works and left in 2018 when she moved to Dallas.
